In collaboration with UNSW and UNE. We thank the ACT Government and the Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing for their support of this pilot screening event.
Developed in consultation with local community and service providers, and backed by a wealth of research, the NFSA is hosting what we hope to be the first of many screenings providing a welcoming, safe and enjoyable experience for people living with dementia, their carers, companions, family and friends.
The Sapphires is an award-winning musical drama, set in the late 1960s and based on the real- life story of four First Nations (Yorta Yorta) women who form a successful girl group, The Sapphires, singing soul music and travelling to Vietnam to entertain US troops.
We are thrilled to present this screening from a 35mm film from the NFSA Collection. One of the costumes worn by The Sapphires in the film will be on display following the screening, with NFSA Curator Jenny Gall available to talk with guests.
This movie matinee event has been specifically designed for the enjoyment of members of the community living with dementia and their friends, families, carers and companions. This will be a relaxed screening with time for everyone to be welcomed to the NFSA, find a comfortable seat, enjoy the film, and spend some time together in the beautiful NFSA courtyard.
If you are caring for a person living with dementia, please select a complimentary Carer ticket, kindly supported by Carers ACT.
