When the Second World War puts male baseball on the backburner, the first professional women's league is established: the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Sisters Dottie (Geena Davis) and Kit (Lori Petty) both find themselves playing for the Rockford Peaches, coached by washed-up Chicago Cubs star Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks). Amid the struggles to keep the league going and to win it the respect it deserves, a fierce rivalry develops between the sisters that threatens their relationship.
Inspired by true events, this critically acclaimed hit offered a new spin on the sports film and an insightful perspective on feminism in the mid-20th century.
‘It’s a serious film that’s lighter than air, a very funny movie that manages to score a few points for feminism in passing’ – The New York Times
