Babe is an Australian classic, the much-loved film about a little pig that yearns to find his role on the farm.
Gentle farmer Arthur Hoggett (James Cromwell) wins a piglet named Babe at a county fair. Hoggett takes Babe home to the barn, where a caring sheepdog called Fly (voiced by Miriam Margoyles) adopts him and raises him as her own.
Babe (voiced by Christine Cavanaugh) makes friends with many of the animals in the barn, including Ferdinand the duck (voiced by Danny Mann), who is always trying to save himself from the dinner table.
Babe soon discovers that he can herd sheep and makes such an impression that Farmer Hoggett decides to enter him into the local sheepdog trials, much to the dismay of his wife (Magda Szubanski) and all the village.
‘A dazzling family entertainment with enormous charm’ – Variety
Presented on a 35mm film print from the NFSA collection.
