2021 DCP| US | D: Chloé Zhao

It’s rare to see non-fiction translated into filmlet alone with the Oscar-winning success of writer/director Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland, which netted three Academy Awards and a further six nominations in 2021

Zhao’s film is inspired by journalist Jessica Bruder’s Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century, a searing study of harsh economic realities in the United States following the Great Recession, and the rise of a transient workforce of older Americans seeking seasonal employment.

Frances McDormand stars in Zhao’s dramatization, a powerful portrait of life as a nomadic van-dweller in post-Recession America.

Life on the road has never been so tenderly captured, politically alive and profoundly moving  Empire

The screening will be followed by a discussion of the film and the nonfiction book with special guest Lech Blaine.
