In rural Australia, the Thompson family are struggling to keep the farm from foreclosure. They hope their horse Prince will win the New Year's Cup so that they can use the winnings to pay off the debt. However, two thieves, Bill and Sly (John Ewart and John Howard), find out about the horse and steal it, escaping into the nearby mountain range.

With their father off droving cattle, it’s up to the Thompson children (Nicole Kidman and Mark Spain), along with their English cousin (James Wingrove) and a local Aboriginal boy (Manalpuy), to pursue the crooks.

Starring Nicole Kidman in her first feature film, this is a much-loved Australian story about an unforgettable outback Christmas adventure.

Presented on a 35mm film print from the NFSA collection.

‘Of primary interest for marking the screen debut of Nicole Kidman … this is family fare of a high order’ – RadioTimes.com
