Arc Cinema presents a series of filmic feasts hosted by Venus Mantrap - local drag artist and culture warrior.  
 
Fright Night: Cult Cinema Classics at the NFSA plumbs the archives to showcase cinema with bite, edgy movies and fan favourites - films that unnerve, push buttons, ask questions and just look good on the big screen!  
 
If you're a sucker for nostalgia or curious about forgotten gems, join Venus as we venture into the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond - with special guests, surprise performances, trivia and best-dressed contests. Gather your tribe of rowdy rebels and misfits and join Venus for Fright Night!  

Frock up for Prom Night at the NFSA and a special Saturday night screening of horror cult classic Carrie, hosted by Venus Mantrap.

For one night only, the NFSA will be transformed into a quintessential American prom night, complete with balloons, refreshments and music. Dress up and enjoy canapes in the 1970s-styled courtyard, with a drink on arrival, before the 8pm screening in Arc Cinema.

Adapted from Stephen King’s bestseller, Carrie redefined suspense and influenced countless high school films, from Jawbreaker to Mean Girls. Masterfully directed by Brian De Palma (Body Double, Blow Out) and starring Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie (both Oscar nominated for their performances) and John Travolta, this 1976 classic is essential viewing on the big screen!

Ticket price includes special access to a prom night at 6pm, with free canapes, one free drink on arrival, music and more, followed by the screening of Carrie at 8pm.

Venus Mantrap
Venus Mantrap is an androgynous construct whose roots are firmly planted in the world of drag. Exploring aspects of cabaret, performance-art and comedy during live shows, Mantrap has produced The Bowie Ball and starred in the one-person shows Life, Love and Lip Syncing and Valley of the Molls. Venus is regularly found at Smith's Alternative as the MC of Cabaret Voltaire and has been a featured artist at Glitterbox, LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club, Drag Cabaret and Finucane and Smith's touring show Dancehall. ON THE NUMBER 53
Route 53 runs between National Museum Lennox Crossing and Dickson Shops Cowper Street on average every 30 minutes from 7.00am to 10.10pm weekdays. Bus alights at Liversidge St behind the NFSA.

PARKING

There is dedicated visitor parking on the premises between McCoy Circuit and Ellery Cresent (paid parking, up to three hours). There is also limited free parking surrounding the building on Liversidge Street.
We recommend using public transport in peak times.

Accessible parking is available off McCoy Circuit.
Wheelchair/accessible access via Liversidge Street.
