1984 | DCP | US | D: Ivan Reitman
Arc Cinema presents a series of irreverent Friday night filmic feasts, curated and hosted by drag artist and culture warrior Venus Mantrap.
Cult Classics with Venus Mantrap plumbs the archives to showcase cinema with bite: films that unnerve, push buttons, ask questions and just look good on the big screen! Gather your tribe of misfits and rowdy rebels and join Venus for edgy movies, fan favourites and hidden gems.
Ghostbusters blurred genres before it was popular, delivering a string of quotable one-liners that have become part of the pop-culture lexicon. Forty years later, it remains a staple with diehard fans and emerging generations alike.
Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Rick Moranis, Ghostbusters was the second-highest grossing film of 1984 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon.
Appealing to adults and children alike, the sharp script by Aykroyd and Ramis marries perfectly to the innovative design and special effects (themselves absolutely charming and definitely of their time and budget).
From the iconic ‘first sighting’ until the credits roll, this is a rollercoaster you won’t want to end. Come and get slimed at Arc Cinema as we raise a glass to this classic film, that deserves to be seen on the big screen with a full house!
‘Ghostbusters is one of those rare movies where the original, fragile comic vision has survived a multimillion-dollar production’ – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
‘Whoever thought of having evil's final manifestation take the form of a 100-foot marshmallow deserves the rational mind's eternal gratitude’ – Richard Schickel, TIME Magazine
Includes a pre-screening introduction and live performance by Venus Mantrap.
