Cult Classics at the NFSA plumbs the archives to showcase cinema with bite, edgy movies and fan favourites  films that unnerve, push buttons, ask questions and just look good on the big screen!

If you're a sucker for nostalgia or curious about forgotten gems, join Venus as we venture into the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond  with special guests, surprise performances, trivia and best-dressed contests. Gather your tribe of rowdy rebels and misfits and join Venus for Fright Night!

You know the premise: a cyborg (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is sent from the year 2029 to present-day LA (1984) to terminate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), woman whose unborn child will play a vital role in their post-apocalyptic future.

Written and directed by James Cameron (AliensTitanic, Avatar)the original Terminator was praised upon release for its slick design and robust action sequences. Its synth-heavy soundtrack and grimy Los Angeles aesthetic create the perfect backdrop for the unstoppable and pitch-perfect Schwarzenegger villain.

Don’t miss our final Cult Cinema filfor 2024!

A blazing, cinematic comic book, full of virtuoso moviemaking, terrific momentum, solid performances and a compelling story  Variety

The havoc makes for a genuine steel-metal trap of a movie that may very well be the best picture of its kind since The Road Warrior [Mad Max 2]  Kirk Ellis, The Hollywood Reporter

This film is held in the NFSA collection.

This screening is part of our season
Cult Classics at the NFSA with Venus Mantrap.
