Martin (Hugo Weaving) is a 32-year-old blind photographer. He lives alone and trusts no-one, especially not his housekeeper Celia (Geneviève Picot), who loves him in secret.

Their antagonistic relationship is disturbed when Martin meets Andy (Russell Crowe), a kitchen hand at a local Italian restaurant. Andy becomes Martin’s eyes – the only person he trusts to describe what is in the photographs Martin takes as proof of the world around him.

This superb drama, written and directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, was restored by the NFSA Restores program in 2016. NFSA Restores seeks to digitise, restore and preserve Australian films so they can be seen in today’s digital cinemas.

If there is a kind of movie I like better than any other, it is this kind, the close observation of particular lives, perhaps because it exploits so completely the cinema's potential for voyeurism’ - Roger Ebert
