The NFSA presents the premiere screening of NFSA Restores: Muriel’s Wedding. Celebrate the 30th anniversary of this iconic Australian film with a live performance and post-screening Q&A.

Languishing in the suburban mundanity of Porpoise Spit, wallflower and ABBA enthusiast Muriel (Toni Collette) dreams of a fairytale wedding and a new life in the big smoke. Things get real, fast, when a blank cheque from Muriel’s parents turns into a fraudulent holiday and a reunion with high school friend Rhonda (Rachel Griffiths).

This critically acclaimed comedy-drama has made an indelible mark on Australian popular culture since its release in 1994. Premiering at Arc Cinema, the NFSA’s digital restoration marks 30 years since Muriel graced the silver screen.

Join us in the NFSA Courtyard from 6pm for a pre-screening soiree: enjoy a drink on arrival and a live performance by popular ABBA tribute act Björn Again (Screening, drink and live performance all included in the price of the ticket).

The NFSA Restores premiere screening kicks off in Arc Cinema at 7pm with an introduction from the NFSA’s CEO, Patrick McIntyre. Stick around for more Muriel magic after the film, with a post-screening Q&A featuring a special guest.

Route 53 runs between National Museum Lennox Crossing and Dickson Shops Cowper Street on average every 30 minutes from 7.00am to 10.10pm weekdays. Bus alights at Liversidge St behind the NFSA.

PARKING

There is dedicated visitor parking on the premises between McCoy Circuit and Ellery Cresent (paid parking, up to three hours). There is also limited free parking surrounding the building on Liversidge Street.
We recommend using public transport in peak times.

Accessible parking is available off McCoy Circuit.
Wheelchair/accessible access via Liversidge Street.
