Staged across the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) lawns, artist Bronte Cormican-Jones presents Of line, of light: a neon and steel sculptural installation that mirrors the architectural geometry in the area. Commissioned for Canberra Art Biennial 2024, this public artwork continues the artist’s exploration of perspective and the echoes within a space.

Light is a central element, drawing through space and shifting throughout the day, while lines are marked in response to the architectural structures around the site. Particular attention is given to the experience of these structures from different vantage points.

This free panel brings neon expert David Cooper and architect Savita Gaonkar into a conversation with the artist on light and architecture, bringing together neon, fine art, architecture and set design perspectives. The discussion will centre on the way each panelist intentionally works with light in their professional practice and the role of light across these spaces.

The panel conversation will be moderated by Chris Mercer, NFSA Chief Experience Officer.

Presented by the NFSA in collaboration with Canberra Art Biennial and Canberra Glassworks, alongside the exhibition of Of line, of light by artist Bronte Cormican-Jones on the NFSA lawns.
