Prince Albert (Colin Firth), the second son of King George V (Michael Gambon), has struggled with a strong stammer his whole life.

Faced with the need to speak in public, and at the encouragement of his wife (Helena Bonham Carter), Albert begins to receive unconventional treatment from Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush).

After the death of his father, and the sudden abdication by older brother King Edward VIII (Guy Pearce) to marry the American Wallis Simpson (Eve Best), Albert unexpectedly ascends to the throne and becomes King George VI.

As war looms on the horizon, the new King must now learn to inspire a nation and an empire and find within himself the voice that he is unsure even exists.

Winner of four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

A film like this arrives on the scene and restores my faith, not only in movies but in humankind itself’  Leonard Maltin
