Arc Cinema presents a series of Friday night filmic feasts hosted by Venus Mantrap - local drag artist and culture warrior.

Fright Night: Cult Cinema Classics at the NFSA will plumb the archives to showcase cinema with bite, edgy movies and fan favourites - films that unnerve, push buttons, ask questions and just look good on the big screen!

If you're a sucker for nostalgia or curious about forgotten gems, join Venus as we venture into the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond - with special guests, surprise performances, trivia and best-dressed contests. Gather your tribe of rowdy rebels and misfits and join Venus for Fright Night!

After moving to the small town of Santa Carla, teenage brothers Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim) discover that the town has been infiltrated by a biker gang of vampires, led by the charismatic David (Keifer Sutherland).

Through a series of initiation challenges into the gang, Michael drinks a bottle of blood and begins to transform into a vampire, a change that will become permanent with his first kill.

To regain his humanity, Michael, Sam and their friends will need to locate and slay the head vampire before it’s too late.

Packed full of sexy homoerotic vampires, an iconic soundtrack and an inexplicably oiled man playing the saxophone with no warning, The Lost Boys is a perfect amalgamation of 80s cool and cheesy fun.

Venus Mantrap is an androgynous construct whose roots are firmly planted in the world of drag. Exploring aspects of cabaret, performance-art and comedy during live shows, Mantrap has produced The Bowie Ball and starred in two one-person-shows: Life, Love and Lip Syncing and Valley of the Molls. Venus is regularly found at Smith's Alternative as the MC of Cabaret Voltaire and has been a featured artist at Glitterbox, LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club, Drag Cabaret and Finucane and Smith's touring show Dancehall. Route 53 runs between National Museum Lennox Crossing and Dickson Shops Cowper Street on average every 30 minutes from 7.00am to 10.10pm weekdays. Bus alights at Liversidge St behind the NFSA.

PARKING

There is dedicated visitor parking on the premises between McCoy Circuit and Ellery Cresent (paid parking, up to three hours). There is also limited free parking surrounding the building on Liversidge Street.
We recommend using public transport in peak times.

Accessible parking is available off McCoy Circuit.
Wheelchair/accessible access via Liversidge Street.
