Based on Banjo Paterson's poem of the same name, The Man from Snowy River follows the story of Jim Craig (Tom Burlinson), who sets out to find his own path after the death of his father. Jim works on a ranch run by Harrison (Kirk Douglas) and he sets out to retrieve a valuable colt from a mob of wild brumbies – and win the heart of Harrison’s daughter Jessica (Sigrid Thornton).
The Man from Snowy River combines an Australian western with a stirring melodrama and period romance, set against a rugged mountain backdrop of wild horses and beautiful landscapes. The film was a huge hit in Australia and has found a special place in our cinematic history.
Join us for your chance to see this classic on the big screen, from a 35mm film print from the NFSA collection.
