Troubled Kansas farmgirl Dorothy (Judy Garland) and her beloved dog Toto are swept up in a tornado and transported to the magical land of Oz. With the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton) on her tail, Dorothy sets out for the Emerald City alongside the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), Tin Man (Jack Haley) and Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), each hoping the magnificent Wizard of Oz (Frank Morgan) can solve their problems and make their dreams come true.
Adapted from L Frank Baum’s fantasy children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, this critically acclaimed Technicolor classic garnered five Oscar nominations, winning Best Original Song for ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’.
‘….old-school MGM filmmaking at its best – sets, make-up, costumes and music combining to quite stunning effect’ – Total Film
