Imagined Touch
2021 | AUS | D: Jodee Mundy, Sofya Gollan | 32 mins
English<>Auslan, English, English SDH Captions
Imagined Touch tells the compelling story of Heather and Michelle, two brave risk-taking women who represent a community that has no public face. With professional support, technology and tactile sign language they take part in the world in a way that is very relatable – they put on a show! By inviting audiences to travel deep inside their deafblind experience they take us on a journey that is both magical and profoundly moving.
With co-director Sofya Gollan’s own intimate understanding of what it’s like to live with deafness, the film’s narrative reveals Heather and Michelle to be as vividly human as any able-bodied person. An astonishing and heartfelt story of two unstoppable women who will let nothing prevent them from realising their dream of living in a fairer, more equal world – a literal experience of walking in another person’s shoes.
Deaf President Now!
2025 | USA | D: Nyle DiMarco, David Guggenheim | 100 mins
American Sign Language, English, English SDH Captions
Revisiting the 1988 protests at Gallaudet University in Washington DC, Deaf President Now! documents a pivotal civil rights moment led by Deaf students who demanded representation on campus, paving the way for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The film recounts the eight days of student action that followed the University’s appointment of a hearing president over several very qualified Deaf candidates, including beloved dean Dr. I. King Jordan. Incorporating an experimental narrative approach named Deaf Point of View, the film uses archival footage and firsthand accounts to capture the collective action in motion, foregrounding solidarity and heralding structural change.
‘An urgent reminder that access and power are inseparable.’ - Owen Gleiberman, Variety
